Jason John is a painter from Detroit, Michigan, with a BFA from Kutztown University and an MFA in painting and drawing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

John works with imaginative and inventive imagery in his oil paintings that discuss and comment on identity, space, and composition. While John is a realist painter, he views them almost as abstracts, building his compositions through an understanding of how color, form, and space, alter how the viewer’s dialogue with the painting.

John is interested in the confrontational manner of portraiture, often using eye contact to change the viewer’s relationship to the individuals in his paintings. He has continually evolved his imagery to create increasingly innovative and influential work.
